Capsule Geology

In the MSJ area, Lower Jurassic Telkwa Formation (Hazelton Group) andesitic flows, tuffs and breccias are intruded by a Late Cretaceous quartz monzonite porphyry stock of the Bulkley Plutnonic Suite which hosts disseminated and fracture controlled mineralization comprised mainly of pyrite with minor chalcopyrite, molybdenite, tenorite, sooty chalcocite and malachite staining. Several outcrops of quartz monzonite porphyry are strongly phyllic altered (quartz, sericite and pyrite).

The MSJ showing was described in 2009 as a roughly concentric zone of propylitic, argillic and phyllic alteration within a quartz monzonite stock, possibly 2 by 3 kilometres in size. The intense quartz-sericite-pyrite (phyllic) alteration forms a prominent gossan along Trail Creek which flows easterly into the Thautil River. Quartz feldspar porphyry dykes occur along the western margin of the stock, associated with pyrite-chalcopyrite mineralization in propylitically altered volcanic tuffs (Assessment Report 22058). Mineralization of this type occurs along also Lone Chasm Creek which was investigated in 2008 by Lions Gate Minerals. Minor quartz-molybdenite veinlets are reported, associated with argillic alteration in the western stock area.

WORK HISTORY

In 1974, A 20 kilometres induced polarization survey (with 300 metre line-spacings by Hudson's Bay Oil and Gas Co. Ltd delineated a 1500 by 3000 metre chargeability high, associated with phyllic alteration in a quartz monzonite intrusion in Trail Creek (MSJ showing) and surrounding overburden covered terrain (Assessment Report 5208).

In 1989, a geochemical evaluation by Placer Dome Inc. on the MSJ showing for A. Schmidt, found anomalous copper and gold in rock, silt and bulk silt samples (Assessment Report 19493).

In 1991, grid soil samples (201 samples) were collected at 100 metres intervals on 200 to 400 metres spaced lines was undertaken over the 1974 chargeability high by Cominco under option. Higher values were found, especially for zinc, over the western portion of the area (Assessment Report 22058).

The 2008 El Toro program of Lions Gate Energy Inc involved mapping, prospecting, 87 rock and 15 soil geochemical samples, GPS surveying of previous diamond drill hole collars, and underground and surface workings, an evaluation of the property (Assessment Report 30731), followed by a 1495 line kilometre airborne magnetic and electromagnetic geophysical survey (Assessment Report 30982). The survey on the West block covered Princess (093L 061), War Eagle (093L 062), Evening (093L 064), Duchess (093L 066), Countess (093L 067), MSJ (093L 241), Ant 1 (093L 320).

The MSJ and Wolverine showings were investigated in 2009 Lions Gate Energy. A closely spaced MMI soil grid was completed in 2009 to evaluate the MSJ showing and previously found chargeability high anomaly. The contoured response ratios for copper show a northeast trending copper anomalous zone that corresponds to a magnetic low anomaly obtained from the 2009 airborne geophysics survey, part of which corresponds to a broader zone of lower anomalous copper strongly correlative with the 1974 induced polarization chargeability high anomaly. A similar pattern exists for gold and to a lesser degree molybdenum. Significant copper-silver mineralization is associated with felsic dikes intruding andesite along the western margin of the MSJ stock. Results of 4.03 per cent copper and 146 grams per tonne silver over 2 metres were obtained from andesite adjacent to the dikes in 2008 along the northwestern margin, approximately 1.5 kilometres to the north (Assessment Report 30731).

Refer also to King (093L 041) for general information on the El Toro property, a large property that was worked by Lions Gate Energy Inc from 2007 to present (2015) and encompassed a very large area including the Star Creek area that contains the MSJ (093L 241), Wolverine (093L 189), Ant 1 (093L 320) and Lefty showings.
